Frequently Asked Questions
Is the EA70 AX tubeless-ready?
Yes. The EA70 AX is a welded tubeless-ready rim designed to accept tubeless tires and sealant. With proper tubeless tape and a compatible valve, you can run lower pressures for better traction and fewer pinch flats. We recommend sealing and testing at home or at a shop if you're new to tubeless setups.
Which tire widths work best with this rim?
The rim's 24mm internal width is optimized for 35–50C gravel tires. That range produces an ideal tire profile for traction and stability on mixed terrain. It also supports slightly narrower or wider tires within the 22–27.9mm inner width tolerance, but for best handling stick to the 35–50C recommendation.
Does this wheel come with a skewer or thru-axle?
Skewers are not included. The EA70 AX is built for a 12mm thru-axle front with 100mm hub spacing. Make sure your fork accepts a 12mm thru-axle and that you have the correct axle hardware. Many modern gravel frames include a compatible thru-axle.
What rotor interface does the hub use?
The wheel uses a Center-Lock rotor interface for quick and secure rotor mounting. If your rotor uses 6-bolt mounting, you can use a Center-Lock to 6-bolt adapter ring. Center-Lock simplifies installation and alignment for on-trail rotor swaps.
Why are there different weights listed for 650b and 700c?
Wheel weight varies with rim diameter and material distribution. The EA70 AX is lighter in the 650b (584 ISO) size at 1670g because the smaller rim uses less material than the 700c variant, which is 1760g. Both are spec’d to keep strength high for gravel use while balancing weight.
How durable is the rim for rough gravel and light bikepacking?
Very durable. The double-wall welded aluminum rim construction combined with double-butted spokes provides strong impact resistance and resilience over rough roads and trails. While not as light as premium carbon wheels, this alloy design is repairable and better suited to the knocks of adventure riding.
Buying Guide
When choosing a gravel front wheel, prioritize rim internal width, hub compatibility, and tubeless readiness. A 24mm internal rim like the EA70 AX balances tire support for 35–50C gravel tires while remaining durable and easy to service. Match the wheel to your fork axle standard (12mm TA, 100mm spacing for the EA70 AX) and decide if you want the weight savings of 650b or the larger roll-over of 700c. Consider spare parts like a Center-Lock adapter, tubeless tape, and sealant when ordering.
