Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use clincher tubes or non-tubeless tires on these rims?
No. The SES 3.4 rims are tubeless-only and are designed to be used with tubeless-ready tyres and a proper tubeless setup (tubeless tape, valve and sealant). Running tubes is not recommended and may compromise tyre seating and safety.
What tyre width should I run on the SES 3.4?
ENVE recommends labelled tyre sizes of 27–28mm for optimal aerodynamic and handling performance; the minimum labelled tyre size is 27mm. The 25mm internal rim width supports modern wider road tyres for better comfort and rolling resistance.
Which freehub bodies are available and how do I choose?
The SES 3.4 is offered with Shimano HG, SRAM XDR, Shimano Micro Spline and Campagnolo N3W freehub options. Choose the freehub that matches your cassette/drivetrain standard — XDR for SRAM 12-speed, Micro Spline for Shimano 12-speed, HG for Shimano 11-speed and wide-range cassettes, and N3W for Campagnolo systems.
Are centerlock lockrings included?
No. The wheels are centerlock only but do not include centerlock lockrings. You'll need to supply compatible lockrings for mounting rotors — most bike shops carry the standard centerlock lockrings for Shimano and SRAM systems.
How durable are these carbon rims for everyday use?
ENVE uses high-modulus carbon layups with precise molding to balance stiffness, impact resistance and weight. The SES 3.4 is designed for road riding and everyday use, but like all carbon rims they require proper tyre pressure, safe mounting procedures and attention to curb impacts to ensure long life.
Can the SES 3.4 be serviced at home?
Basic maintenance like cleaning, checking spoke tension and swapping rotors/freehubs is straightforward, and ENVE’s INNERDRIVE hubs are designed for user-friendly service. For bearing replacement or complex hub work, we recommend an experienced mechanic or ENVE-authorized service center.
Buying Guide
When choosing high-performance road wheels, match rim depth, internal width and hub standards to your typical riding conditions and bike compatibility. The SES 3.4 is an excellent all-around choice if you want a single wheelset that balances aero gains with low weight and modern tyre compatibility. Confirm axle spacing, rotor mount (centerlock) and freehub standard before ordering. If you ride predominantly on flat, fast roads, prioritize aero depth; if you climb frequently or face variable conditions, a shallower 39mm rim like the SES 3.4 is an ideal compromise.
